Tony_Poole The mind that is JPB has produced, for me, his best work to date. A stylish fusion of jazz, funk, cinematic and oriental sounds. Nothing else quite like it around. All winner!

about

Jules' paean to the river of Kyoto-through his eye the lifeblood of the city-a place of peace, freedom & spirituality. Nature abounds, transforming through the seasons. The sun goddess shimmers in its ripples.

Black Kites wheel up above, earnest hobbyists practise freely. You might hear a bamboo flute or shamisen, watch troupes of dancers or giant flag wavers, see almost any sport under the sun.

A place to run under cherry blossoms or chill with a beer as you watch people walk over Sanjo Bridge, the moonlight glimmering and the streetlights reflecting in the water.

Where musicians perform and fantasies are dreamed up. On a balmy summer night you might catch a posse of fireflies, maybe find yourself strolling through a festival, energised by the human vibes.

It's no surprise then that this is the place in Kyoto where JPB spends most of his time. A river of inspiration!

The river has the answers if you reflect upon its ripples and place yourself humbly before it. Shallow yet deep in what it knows, a spring of ancient knowledge from the northern mountains. At once a place for daily mundane activity or zen-like contemplation.

All this plays into the mind of the artists, and the psyche-prism of Jules' musical mind.

'The Holy Kamogawa' is the fruit of JB's winter labour, beginning with a winter mood, bursting into ecstatic spring choruses & whimsical twists & turns.

This tune has all the hallmarks of classic tracks like Zoomala, Oh Flamingo, Back to Canaan, Theme de Koto, and Jongara Zeus. It's virtually an album rolled into one shape-shifting tune.
